Anyone plan on trying for a few flatties from shore? I've been eyeing up a few places ( mantoloking bridge, Rt 70 bridge, windward)

Me me me
I just posted in another thread inquiring if they're "catchable" from shore, like from the inlets.

Shark River by the boat ramp is a great spot when the season opens...
Also both ends of the canal have good access and fishing for land based flounder.
Have fun and good luck.

Great locations Capt Jerry! The ends of the Canal can be really good fishing if you can get a spot.
Eng5Lt, the Inlets are definitely not places I would rule out, but they don't always seem to be as productive. The flounder seem to concentrate more in the back bays and rivers. If you can get up into the bay or river farther in a decent channel or into some deeper water areas, you can get into some good fish. As always, sometimes they are there and sometimes they aren't. I have had luck at the 24th Ave Pier in Seaside Park. If you can get a spot on the end of the Pier, there is a nice channel you can cast into...just be prepared to snag. There is something in there that must have about $500 worth of lures and setups of mine down there ;D. Also the old Wheelhouse Marina in South Seaside Park, which is now park of IBSP. You used to be able to fish in there, but I haven't been there since it became property of IBSP. I have also fished at the Manasquan Inlet around the bend in the little park there. There was a guy, many years ago, who used to heavily chum in there and fishing was always good when he was there.

I have heard that the fyke netters have been getting the flatties in the Toms River already. From the main pier in IH to the Toms River Yacht Club seem like the hot spot.

Are these fyke netters, recreational or commercial? I am guessing recreational, so I guess they are throwing them back for now?

All went back so he said... 5hrug

Has anyone fished the RT 70 pier? It comes very close to the channel and looks like it could be a very productive spot

That's what I figured. What species are they targeting in the fyke nets?

Fyke nets are commercial. Think they pay a whole $5 license too ::)
One in Shark River has them all over and as far as I know they're in catching all the time. cfzd rgmn

Might be time to become a commerical fisherman! ;)

read an article today sating the manasquan doesn't pick up until later in the season due to the colder ocean water brought by an incoming tide. Upper barnegat seems to be the key.
-
ill probably try for them one or 2 weekends this year. t^

NJ regs I read indicates that no Winter Flounder are to be taken by fyke nets from Feb 20th through April 30th....any taken during this period are being taken illegally. Fee is $12 per net.

A freind of mine lives by the Mantoloking bridge and said he was having FRESH fish for dinner tonight! >:D <'((((><

t^ That is what my hint was about.

-
Yeah, I was talking to hom today and he did mention that the perch are running the the river right now.

is the dock by the ramp on the SE end of the canal public? has anyone fished there?
-
I'm all ready to go out during the week. Looking at fishing the mantoloking bridge. Anybody fish the shores of Northern OC or hear of any reports???
-
Capt Bailey That pier is public. Also on the road in to the pier there is a side street, first right that runs to the canal. There flatties and tog are caught. Lots of snags. Good luck.

Hey Capt. Bailey,
I was fishing the Mantalokin Pier the other day with no luck. There was a good chum slick going by another person but that did not seem to help either.
All reports I have heard were second hand so not reliable. It is still slim pickins out there.
Good Luck.
