Daniel Sandorff sent me this.
Saturday 6-27-09 A Point Pleasant Boat Kristin Marie with Captain Jeff at the helm potentially shattered the NJ state record for thresher shark.
The Sandorff charter with Ben on the rod took the fish in 1 hour 45 Min, 45 miles off shore. It was officially weighed in at the Brielle Yacht Club.

W O W nice ! WAY NICE ! slt
-
Any info yet if they are good eating or no? Seems a HUGE HUGE waste in my eyes to kill something like that without it being good to eat. Just my $.02
-
IMO. Fishing is Also a sport. Not just a way to put food on the table. If you think you have a record fish. That fish needs to come home with you. t^
-
It's basically swordfish -- and along with mako shark sold as such by disreputable fishmongers -- so use any sword recipe. Turkish walnut sauce over grilled kebabs is nice. Poached in olive oil is also good.
Keep in mind that mercury levels in thresher are pretty high. Don't feed it to young kids, and don't eat more than 2-3 meals of it per month.
Fish On!
