Going to try and catch some killies for a Friday fluke trip. What is the best bait to use in the killie trap? Also do you think the killies will last over night in a killie cooler? Thanks for the help guys.

I've used a chopped up bunker before and it did pretty good

I have always used bread. But just about anything will work. Crushed up clans, crab carcass, cat food, you name it it should work.

Fluke racks, 1/2 a piece of fresh bunker, crushed crab.

Best bait for catching kellies you can't use anymore.........quartered up female horshoe crabs......kellies go wild on the eggs.....

I think the best is a bagel...it'll last pretty good.
Fluke racks are good but you'll have a big smelly mess in the trap with the killies.
Believe it or not, I've gotten them with no bait in the trap at all...

Crab shells, cooked, fresh, whatever. If left overnight, just watch as you may get a few eels as well. t^

crab crushed is the best bait out there ,I also flatten out a coors light can and it attracts them {shine I think } .cat nip is another good cheap bait .if you use bread it will swell up in there bellies and kill some of them if they cant puke it up

I like to use a smashed up crab. The shell sent seems to attract them and it lasts a long time.

I agree with the killies bloating, so to eliminate that, I use a umbrella net, put the killie pot filled with bread on top of it, and as the killies investigate the baited trap, just life up on the umbrella net and you get them before they even go in the net. The little pieces of bread that breaks down and float out of the trap is just enough to attract them without them over feeding.

Crushed clam and/or shell, fish rack, or bread almost anything.Even seen a guy use raw chicken but be careful with "sally boy" with the chicken. cfzd

i use crab , bunker or if im out i use can cat food crack the lid usually salmon or tuna and i get just as much as if i used the crab plus its shiny.

my favorite that seems to work very well is cheese, plain old yellow american, makes a nice oil slick to the killie pot.
also if your gonna keep them over night, make sure to use an air pump, or they will surely die.
i used to catch a ton of them, and when they got home transfer them to a big tub with fresh water, yes they will live in fresh as well as they do in salt. have kept them alive for a couple weeks. if the water starts warming up on them, drop ice in to cool them down, or switch out with new fresh water. the hotter the water, the less oxygen content there will be.
