The Striped Bass fishery along the east coast has rebounded over the years. I spent my college years fishing the Delaware in Trenton. It was a great fishing and striper fix without the ride to the shore, when I was away at school. Used to fish around the Route 29(aka Bridge St, Lower Bridge, TRENTON MAKES THE WORLD TAKES Bridge) and by the Power Plant(both are south of Calhoun St). 20+lb fish were not uncommon in there. Lots of fun... I haven't been out there in ages to fish. Scout it out at lower tides and when the River is not in flood stages. You can pick out a good amount of structure and pick your spots that way. Be careful on land too...lots of shady characters walking around Trenton and the man made banks have not been well up kept.
Also, like Capt Chris said, make sure you double check the Regs for where you are fishing. The Delaware is considered Freshwater from the Commodore Barry Bridge and north. Then south of there at the Pennsylvania Line it turns into Delaware and you need a Delaware Saltwater License to fish it by boat.

Hey there pfish, does that include fishing on the jersey side of the delaware also? I fish the delaware north around delanco area, and this year will go down further south towards that area chrz

The Delaware River becomes 100% owned by Delaware at the Pennsylvania/Delaware State Line and extends south to the Delaware Bay to the tip of Artificial Island. Anywhere on the Delaware within this area by boat, you have to have a Delaware Fishing License. If you are fishing from land, you only need the NOAA Registry if targeting anadromous species stripers, herring, etc. NJ Freshwater Fishing License is required at the Commodore Barry Bridge in Bridgeport and north.

Here is a good explanation of why the border is the way it is...technically part of NJ is Delaware, however they gave us that part in exchange for the River.
