You can start with the Raritan river. Trout stocked in the spring and plenty of small but scrappy smallmouth biting all summer.

Duke Island park is a good starting point.

Also, Round Vally and Spruce run right down the road.

Hey, I live just south of where Route 202 goes over the Raritan.  There's a pretty decent sized parking area on the southbound side, right next to the bridge.  I see alot of guys going in and fishing the river in waders there.  If you're a fly fisherman, that's definitely a good spot to hit from what I hear.

I think some guys throw small spinner baits as well on light spinning tackle.  Panther Martin's and the likes will probably work.  You'll definitely find some decent trout around there though.

Also try the Delaware/Raritan canal, best fishing is early spring before it weeds up too bad, lots of LM Bass, pickerel, i have even caught a few walleyes over the years

In far hills, over on 202 crosses the railroad tracks down the road abit is a baseball field behind the field is stocked. You can park on the side road or go down by the buildings that are on the grounds and park in the back by the stream. Not real wide slow parts and fast. Drowning worms or mealies free flowing bouncing off the bottom best possible chance. Also if you follow the river toward 202 while walking it, the river gets deaper and a little wide.

just pulled a musky out of spruce run yesterday.  only about 20 inches and 4 pounds, but appears to be a barred musky
