Welcome Aboard donna m & Almen,

Glad to have you both aboard.  The site has been growing pretty fast and Almen I am sorry I missed saying hello before this.

Where do you fish out of, and do you frequent the surf, boat, charters or head boats?  I am located in Toms River and am a suds pounder.  I frequent IBSP up to the Manasquan Inlet.

Right now just about everyone is waiting for the fall run to kick into high gear and have a banner season.

Again Welcome Aboard.

Happy Catching

Welcome Aboard srfcaster and jigamafish,

Pull up a comfortable chair, kick your shoes off, grab a cold adult beverage if you are allowed and be ready to learn.  Or if you would like to teach us some new things all the better.

I have to warn you though this site can be habit forming.  Make sure you take time out to fish.

BTW srfcaster what ares do you hit the suds?

I'm a new member here and from what the site looks like so far I think its great.I've been fishing in the bays and ocean of NJ for 57 years. Been around boats for that long also (my mother had labor pains with me in my dad's 1st boat on Kettle Creek). I've sailed boats inshore and raced offshore, raced offshore power boats, crossed many oceans (in submarines) and of course fished. I am high and dry this year and would like any leads or anyone who fishes alone and would ever be looking for someone to fish with and of course split the costs. The "Hook" is where I fish most and Manasquan area.

Hi ryko welcome aboard.

I do not have a boat but fish the suds from the Manesquan Inlet to Barnegat Inlet.  I to have been fishing this area for over 50 years.  I prefer to surf fish even though I had a number of boats ranging from 27' to 10'.

It is to expensive for me to even think of even though it is in the back of my mind all the time.

If you ever get the urge to hit the suds just watch in the Surf Fisherman's Forum either "From the Suds" or "Conditions at IBSP" I usually post when I hit the beach.

Again, welcome aboard.

Happy Catching

Welcome to the site ryko.  After about eight posts you will have some more forums open up for you.  In those forums you will see guys who run open boats.  Someone is always looking for people to fish with them to cut down costs for everyone.  You should have no problems finding a boat to jump on.  I see Mboy has already answered up on that.

Any questions you have, ask away.  Anything you can add, please do so.  We all share here.

Looking forward to your posts/reports.   t^

Just found this board and think it is great. I posted one topic and received feedback already. I fish out of Shark River on a 25 Grady White and do alot of sharking and cod fishing. Love fluke and stripers as well but sharking is my favorite. Work part time on a charter boat in pt. pleasant as well. Can't waite for sharking season to come around and start hearing the reels screm.

Welcome aboard Tunatales. We are at the same marina. You were just down the dock from me on 'D' dock when I first got to the marina several years ago. I moved the boat twice since then (same marina, different dock) and am now a dock over from you.
You had a great season last year on the shark and cod if I remember right, especially on the cod. I hope this season is as productive for you.
Any questions you have, ask away. Anything you have to add, please do so. A bunch of nice guys here. All willing to share and wanting to expand on their knowledge.

Hello all. I'm just starting to get into fishing - my five year old is obsessed, and I feel like his old man needs to at least keep up.  Truth to tell, I've started to really enjoy it myself.  We live in Mountain Lakes, so we hit the lakes there after school a few nights a week, plus weekends.  Mostly I dive, at least every other weekend, out of point pleasant, belmar, etc. (hence the avatar.)

I mostly signed up because I can't figure out what a fish it I keep catching in one of our lakes.  I'll post it in the freshwater section, and hopefully someone can solve the riddle.

Hello, good to find the site, very well done so far and have to admit, the reports section is GREAT!  Looking forward to getting great reports here.  Usually get a few trips to coast for fishing as travel and expense can be cumbersome so when I do plan a Party Boat run, always on the Cock Robin (unless fluking of course, but have caught them at nite while Bluefishing!!) and will pleasantly admit that in 32 years of riding this boat(Holiday, before she was renamed the Cock Robin) have NEVER gotten off the boat without catching something!  Not many party boats can boast a patron like that!
I remember MANY years ago(Aging Capt. Jim now too...LOL) when he did some Tuna runs to the canyon, very slow going and despite cold water, our trip slammed the blue sharks, we played catch and release all day and that trip, despite the expense, was INCREDIBLE!!!  (Smacks the mate in the head that knew how tired I was from reeling in a nice 6 foot blue and decided to smack the sharks head with the gaff sending it back to the depths with the line screaming off the reel, he simply said "Reel it in again!!")  That is all for now, sorry for being so wordy!!

I fish Long Branch Beach mostly, but hopefully my Bud Chris and I will look for some more areas. We fished Point Pleasant area seawall last year and had a not so good trip on the Jamaica II. His wife was high hook with one starfish. Did see one of the biggest Black Sea Bass caught. 8# and fat. Good to meet you guys and hope to have a great and long lasting angling adventure here. Hello my name is Offshore Madness im new here! First let me tell u a little about myself,I used to be a professional and certified marine mechanic for over 15 years.I started out as a gas boy a clarks landing and from day one i was determined to become one of the best marine mech. out there.I have worked for many full service marinas to mobile repairs. Most have sent me to schools for Mercury/mercruiser,omc,Johnson/Evinrude and Yamaha to get some stupid paper saying I can read their books and pass their tests! However,I found it more rewarding getting my hands dirty and Acutally DOING the jobs then reading....I did however pass All the tests!!!My experiance ranges from restoring older boats to run offshore,to being top engineer on the New York Fast Ferrys Vessels the Bravest and the Finest which has. Twin 4 turbochargers v 12 diesels.I no longer work as a marine mech,I now own part of a recycling and demo company.Im a OFFSHORE manic cause as we all know BIGGER FISH swim in the OCEAN and i go every chance i get.we have a 17 ft proline center console with a 115 mercury pushing "Ever Enough" thro thr tough stuff off jersey shore

hi!  newbie here (to both fishing and computers) but oldie elsewhere (as in certified senior).

now, is there a way to sort posts so that the newest appear first (i know i can actually start with the last page of a topic and work my way up but it seems more logical - and easier - the other way around)?

and to the business at hand. if i wanted only one surf combo which would you guys recommend i purchase:  a 10' daiwa d-wave or a 12' okuma tundra - both costing more or less the same.  i already have a 6' shakespeare sturdy stick w/ a baitcasting reel (bought at a yard sale) which i am told is more for boat (or pier?) use.  i am basically a minimalist and love doing more with less...  ;)

Hi All,

New member, found the site looking for fishing reports...Been doing saltwater for just a cpl years now, each year getting more active with it...long-time freshwater...mostly do party boats and been getting lucky (pool winner last 3 outta 4 trips) and now doing boat rentals...I'm actually goin out tomorrow with my father and wondering if anyone has any tips for barnegat Bay? Think were renting from The Dock Outfitter..Went out last week for fathers day and was the worst day of my saltwater experience...one stinkin short using spro jig and chartruese gulp...Any tips for Barnegat at this time much appreciated as it will be my first time there.

Hi Steve, Add a teaser hook on a dropper loop 18" above your Bucktail and try either  gulp or squid and spearing combo, you will be surprised how many fluke will hit that instead of your spro. You can also add a second hook to your spro  Bucktail about an 1 1/2" behind the original hook. I use 50lb braid to do this

Hi Hunter,

90% of the time I do add a teaser hook about 12-18" above the Spro, and that was actually what I did last week at Shark River, with a chartreuse gulp mullet, and Nothing bit...I used 25lb test and I think that may have been my problem, but not sure....as far as a teaser hook off the Spro, I do that sometimes, but rarely...I just went to Dick's and bout 4" and 6" white mullets at the suggestion of the salesperson along with a diamond jig in case I wanna try for some bluefish...I'm really hoping to catch a few tomorrow, bc last week was extremely disappointing

Welcome Aboard Bob,

Nice to have you aboard.  Like Dale mentioned we have a section for Kayakers so don't forget to hop on there as well.  This summer looks to be a good one if the predictions of some of the old timers.  It has been said that whenever the bay freezes over that the spring and summer fishing in the back bays will be great fishing.  This year the bay frozover twice so lets see what happens.

Happy Catching

Hi Folks,

new member (scott)I've been living in this area for a couple years adn just recently decided to try  my hand at fishing the local waters. I am an accomplished flyfisherman and black bass chaser. I was born in San Diego and grew up fishing nearly every weekend for Spanish mackeral, Bonito, yellow tail, and a few other.  That being said......I don't know the first thing about stripers, fluke, blues or any other local finfare. I need some help with the basics of local fishing. I own a 19' wellcraft w/90hp nissan and I live in Bergen County.

Hello, new member here. I live in east Tennessee, but I grew up in Lancaster county Pa, used to go to the south Jersey shores all the time, mostly Wildwood, Cape May area. My son currently lives in Pennsville NJ. I try to get up to see him once a summer and we head to Cape May and do some party boat fluke fishing. I joined this forum to get info on tackle, fishing reports etc. I own a sea pro bay boat and fresh water fish for bass and stripers here in Tenn. I also go to Destin Fla 4 weeks out of the year and chase all the fish down there either in Choctowatchee Bay or the gulf of Mexico.

Hi All,

Not sure if I had ever posted my introduction, i may have just can't recall....Anyways, names Steve and live in Central Jersey, and mostly fished freshwater my whole life, but over the last several years have been fishing salt and love it...Mainly go to Shark River bc thats the closest to me but my brother just bought a house in Brigantine last summer and a 21' boat this year, so im going to be getting some experience down there as well. Looking forward to visiting some topics in these forums on advice on where to fish. Glad to be a part of this
