Title: SoS...Pls help (Newbie alert)
Post by: maverick on June 28, 2012, 11:48:28 AM
I have done some amount of saltwater fishing, but mostly with some friends/acquaintances who were pros. Now I am on my own as most of them have moved away, making me a newbie for all purposes.

I wanted some advice on places where I can fish off a pier and maybe throw a few crab traps as well. Will take all sorts of fish (preferably not ones that take a lot of doing) but want something that can be keepers.

Please guide on spots not too far from new brunswick, NJ that will work. Thoughts on bait and any other aspects will also be helpful

 wa

There's a good list of land based access in this forum   http://njsaltwaterfisherman.com/forums/index.php?board=58.0

For fluke, Gulp products or squid / killie combo.
Bluefish, mullet or bunker chunks.  Or artificial lures.
Do a little poking around here and there are several beginner threads.

And stop by one of the local shops when you pick a spot.  They can help you out with what's biting and on what for the area at that time.

as I recall there is a public bulkhead in perth amboy where you can wet a line - right near where the Sea Hawk sails from.

can't guarantee keepers but it's close, and with the right techniques you could prolly catch sumthin'

Right, and at the Keyport Marina too. I think they get fluke and are now catching cocktail blues.
