Title: SH rips 10-16
Post by: makokeith on October 17, 2007, 07:39:24 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Drifted eels at the rips last night for the incoming and didn't do as well as the last few weeks but we did boat 2 keepers for dinner tonight. lots of small blues stealing half of the eels.
Lots of traffic too for an evening trip during the week...I guess everybody is getting out there now for this nice temp change...

I gotta get up that way.  Things are super slow in the Shark River area right now.    :(

I'll tell you that I never believed in the whole tide thing ,  but the out going has been the best time at the rips.  the drift is good and all you need is a 1 ounce egg sinker.  Then the eel does its own thing and look real natural to the bass.

1 oz in the rip... I find that one hard to believe.. even 1oz outside the rip seems very difficult.

I thought the same thing.. a friend of mine was fishing right next to me using a 1/4 oz and caught 4 at around 35". me nothing. I was using a fishfinder with 4oz.  we swithed over but had to use 1oz as thats all I had and then we started catching...The idea is that the eels instinct is to swim down to the bottom, so the wieght just helps it down...and trust me when I say that you can feel the bottom, and you can feel the eel freaking out a few seconds befor you get hit.

If you get up thee just give it a shot.  1 oz egg sinker, bead, barrell swivel, 3-4 ft of fluro and an 8 gama octi/circle.   Ohhh yeah,,LIVE eels. ;D
