Tried to write a review on Tackle Store but got bounced out (that's ok, I have been bounced out a few times in my life) Crazy Rowdy Crowd !!
It is a good product,made strong to last.Worth it.
Anyway, the tapered step up profile allows more of the hook bend gap to grab hold of the flesh protected by the thick scales.Sometimes the other style will bump the fish and not dig into the fish.Then you have to bend hooks,shanks and gaps which results in something that looks like our Politicians bite on when they make their famous speeches. A piece of  S#!(    ;D TT^
