Fished the evenings of 4/13 and 4/14 with clams. On 4/13 my dad and I fished from 5-7, had 5 shorts to 25 inches(just one pole was out.) On 4/14 I went by myself and ran out of bait in 70 minutes. Caught 4 to 26 inches and lost plenty more.
Today is technically opening day in New York. I woke up at 6 and went down to the biggest bait shop out here and they had no clams. Went to another place at 7:30 and they were closed(their site/facebook said they open at 7.) Went to another one further away that was supposed to be open at 7 and they were closed aswell. Very disappointing, but sadly I guess for bait I gotta give them my business. Hopefully they wake up so I can fish later

Bad news about the clams. It's blowing hard today and not sure if he clammers will be out. Hopefully they went out yesterday

A pick at the shorts, good start. t^
Most shops are still on their winter/off season schedule. They should start their summer schedule with the days warming up.

Was able to get clams. Fished from 4:15-7:45 and had 2 shorts to 20 inches. Beach was packed and I believe only 1 other person had multiple fish in that time. Not nearly as good as the past couple days

Good for you in having action and landing some fish. The bait shops should be on Spring schedule by end of April and be stocked with clams. Some times we buy extra and my son salts the bellies and places em in the freezer till next evening trip on the surf. Good Fishing !!
