Title: 2017 Fluke regs
Post by: EagleAye on May 11, 2017, 11:56:02 AM
Looks like it's going to be 3 fish at 18" from 5/25-9/5.  And apparently fall sea bass had the bag limit cut from 15 fish to 5 fish at 12.5".  We just keep getting screwed more and more.

Copied from the Jersey Coast Anglers Association's Facebook page on May 11:

"Just a quick update on the fluke and sea bass regulations. The fluke season is going to be from 5/25-9/5 with a 3 fish limit and an 18" size limit. Delaware Bay will still have the 17" size limit and 3 fish while those fishing at Island Beach will be allowed 2 fish at 16". Our State argued vehemently on our behalf with the Feds but this is the best compromise they could come up with so that we could stay at 18".Regarding sea bass, we are going to have to cut back further too because the final MRIP numbers came out a couple days ago and NY caused our region to go far over the anticipated harvest. The motion that passed at yesterday's ASMFC meeting would require us to reduce our bag limit from 15 fish to 5 fish during November and December. However, the NJMFC might possibly work something else out through conservation equivalency. I will try to give a more detailed report in the near future. Agreed..  If I could head out of Barnegat and catch 3 fish per man. That would be great..  but to book a $140.00 plus tip charter for 3 fish.. is nuts..  They are the ones that are going to get the brunt of this..  So FD up!!

I got this in an email today.

"Sound science dictates that the summer flounder population in NJ coastal waters are in dire straits and your advocacy of the status quo is not only irresponsible but potentially catastrophic!"

Like.. Really????
