Title: Done For the Year - Yamaha F225 Corrosion Issue
Post by: Hotrod on September 07, 2018, 06:04:42 PM
Down For The Rest Of The Year.. Some good memories and images to hold onto from our last trip at least...

Yamaha F225 Corrosion Complaints (https://www.boatus.com/magazine/2012/october/yamaha-f225-corrosion-complaints.asp)

This is why I was over Heating at idle.  Pressure was holding water back..

It found me...  I am on a war path..  750 hours on the motor..  I came in late because of my use..

best they do is sell you the parts for cost @ $600
The 8 Hours labor you have to eat..

That sucks. I passed on a couple nice boats when I was looking because they had that era motors. I don't believe it was only the 225.  I think it was all the 6-cylinder 4 stroke models because they used the same block. You can get Jasper remanned powerheads if it comes to it.

Sorry for your troubles Rod. That’s some sh!tty customer service on Yamaha’s part. I have never owned a Yamaha and I would now never consider one. I’ve had Suzuki’s on my center consoles. They always did the right thing if an issue came up. If I ever own an outboard again, it would be a Suzuki. You can always hop on here. Good luck.

Sucks that the dreaded Yamaha issue found your motor Rod. Hopefully you found it before it caused catastrophic power head failure.  I've heard that some insurance companies are covering the repairs with Boat US being one of the more helpful ones.

That stinks! I just started looking at outboards to Repower.  Your report is definitely helping me out. Leaning towards the Suzuki but want some more info on the new mercury v6 3.4 liter  best of luck with the repair.

That is why I would not own a Yamaha, not due to the corrosion issue, but due to the fact they would not pony up and stand behind their product.
E-tec's are another one. Junk injectors. Would not own one of these either.

Poor service for a huge corporation like Yamaha... How come they even didn't address this? Maybe it would make sense to e-mail to their main office then?... I didn't have any Yamaha motor, by the way, and I am not likely to get one. Sad story.

Yamaha knew of the issue and continued to produce the powerheads without care. Not likely they will do anything more than the kit at the already "discounted" price.  I'm actually surprised that after this happened, people still wanted Yamaha outboards
