Title: GAMBLER— Tuna and stripers
Post by: Capt Bogan on November 09, 2019, 10:36:45 AM
Canyons are still full of life off the Jersey coast

The Gambler just returned from a canyon trip. We got out there and started a drift by 2PM, in a good 5 degree break.  First fish to greet us were big blue dogs but they were soon chased by porpoises.  Shortly after that,  we caught a yellowfin and a longfin on lures.

After sundown,  we released a small swordfish. We caught plenty of squid and saw schools of ballyhoo swimming around our night lights. The blue sharks came on heavy at times, only chased briefly by our porpoise buddies. At times, we had 3 monster sharks on at once.

Just before daybreak,  the sharks backed off and the tunas, yellowfin and longfin,  started to take our lures and baits. They came in shots of one to three with occasional lulls.

Dennis Portalatin did very well on a flutter jig, hooking and landing 3 yellowfin,  20 to 40 lbs and two longfin of the 50lb class. He had similar success on our last trip.

The weather was great till just about leave time and then it got a bit sporty on the ride home but nothing terrible.

We are putting together another trip for this coming Weds night at 8PM. There is still plenty of room, so call or book online

Our striper trips are going every day except this coming Weds.

Our striped bass trips leave at 7:30 and return by 2:30. We don't have a recent report but we are fishing for stripers with lures and live bunkers when we can snag them.

Our galley is ready for your order on every trip, with breakfast sandwiches, dogs, burgers, coffee and soft drinks.

Hope to see you aboard
