Title: Nice deal on anchor ball/retrieval system!
Post by: mboy on March 12, 2008, 02:11:08 PM
I had ordered 1 from a place which had the best price or so I thought. Turns out they did not carry them anymore, so the search began. After MUCH searching, turns out Dick's has a GREAT deal on them in various sizes.

Not only that, but if you surf the 'net hard enough, you can find a 15% off coupon to order online (ok, here it is): http://www.couponchief.com/dickssportinggoods?s_kwc=dicks%20coupon|1306262522# (http://www.couponchief.com/dickssportinggoods?s_kwc=dicks%20coupon|1306262522#)

Here is Dick's Ball (anchor) page  nosmly

Couldn't of used it if you didn't have it :)

I really wanted it just in case I am on the hook and needed to get off real quick. Don't feel like losing an anchor, so just hook up to ball with snap real quick and off I go. Come back to pick it up when safe.

Retrieval part is just a bonus for me.

what size do you recommend?  I think I have a # 13 anchor.

13 would bi minimum as that is reoc'd for up to 20lbs anchor/chain.

Probably 16 would be better for you.

I really went by what I can store in my storgae area (and hoping 13 fits). Otherwise I will return and go to a 9 or 11".

dumb question -- do you think the rope comes with it too?  ring/rope/ball?

I've seen all 3 for 80 bucks.  for 50(including discount) -- can't beat that price and will save someones back some day in rouch weather.

Yes, I believe the one at Dick's comes with everything (complete system). That's what makes this a great deal.
Absolute worst is it comes with ring and buoy. Rope can't be more then a couple bucks if you need to supply it 1.5'-2' mmaybe.

If nothing else, it allows me to play with one of my balls on my boat without Fishinfool bustin' my chops  t^

I have one for my boat.  A must have if you don't have a winch to haul your anchor.   t^

I have a closed bow and the retrieval system is a blessing!  I launch and retrieve from the cockpit and its piece of cake.
Heres a tip:  the system comes with a rope that is around 3 ft long. Cut it as short as possible that allows you to tie the ball to the anchor ring.  Mine is all of 6".
The reason behind this is to keep the anchor line as close to the surface as possible. This prevents any chance of the anchor line wrapping your prop/drive if the ball were to get pulled behind/under the boat for any reason during retrieval.
I have tried different lengths of rope in the setup and the length did not alter the performance one bit. Shorter is better.
I should send this tip to LongShot, eh Mike?   ;D

God tip and good advice for anyone who routinely runs over their own anchor rode with an inboard engine :)

Do you know how much a 16" buoy will hold?  I have a little more chain on the anchor ..

Hello Guys, I have the anchor ball on a 13-15 lb Dansforth. The Fisheman Supply in Point Pleasant has a nice set up(no affiliation).I go with a little bigger ball (next size up)to pull the anchor and keep it up ( I can see the comments comming on this on), while I circle around to scoop it up and tuck it away.
