Atlantic City boardwalk and Jetty's

OK, I think it's time for another report on one of the locations that I have checked out this year. This is a very large area to fish and I decided to try two different places during my visit. The parking in this area can be tricky, depending on how much you value your car/truck. It turns from low income to high incoming living in the matter of about one block. I imagine as the fishing season picks up, the parking in the nicer neighborhood will become much more difficult to find than it currently is. this being said, the boardwalk Which begins at Caspian Ave. and runs parallel with N. Maine Ave.),and the main jetty ( at the end of N.Main and Oriental Ave.) are very nice and well worth giving a shot.

There are 7 small jetty's that run from under the boardwalk into the inlet.
I did see some people fishing from the jetty's, but it was difficult to get onto these since the boardwalk is only a few feet above them. The only way to get onto these is to climb over the rail of the boardwalk and jump down onto the rocks.

The boardwalk itself however is elevated  above the water so that you can fish between all of the Jetty's right from the boards. This is what I chose to do. There was some cabbage but not terrible, and the water is not too deep, but not too shallow either at low tide. I picked up a skate from here, and I didn't see anyone else catching anything, but it was still pretty early in the season.

The long Jetty at the end of Oriental ave is a nice jetty that is extremely easy to navigate. It can be accessed from the boards (over the rail and down a small step ladder) or from the beach if you prefer. There were people fishing from the beach, and quite a few from the jetty. Although nobody was catching this particular day, I did hear good reports from some of the old timers and regulars that were fishing. You can fish the suds off of the beach on the right side of the jetty, or the deeper waters of the inlet if you fish to the left. I would guess this jetty to be about 300 - 400 yards long beginning to end.(Look at the pictures, I took these photos in both directions from the halfway point) I threw plugs from the bend to the end, on both sides of the jetty. No fish, but like I said, it was early and cold. I will definitely try this spot again before long.

As always, I would love to hear from other folks who have fished this spot, or who plan too! And remember, the casinos are right up the road, so if you are a gambler, time to start using your comp cards for a free place to stay on your trip!!! chrz

Enjoy,
    Sean

Excellent report Sean.  That looks like some prime fishing locations you have there.  If I am not mistaking that area is where the monster record bass was caught.  I think it was the Atlantic Ave. Jetty.

Thanks for taking the time to make sure there are plenty of locations to choose from.  People coming to NJ should have plenty of opportunities to catch that prize fish this year.

Thanks Again

Paul

I fished there the Sunday of the memorial Day weekend, or I should say I wet my line-came up empty.  Lots of fishermen there, and I spoke with a few locals who were quite friendly after we broke the ice.  The locals were mostly bait guys-using clams and a couple of guys were using worms. There's a bait shop a block away for those inclined.  Some of the non-locals were using lures. People were fishing off the boardwalk, a lot on the long jetty and handfuls on the short ones. I didn't see anything getting pulled in, but a few of the guys said a few kingfish were taken earlier in the morning, and one non-local claimed to have caught a herring at the end of the long jetty.  I lost some lures, rigs and weights, but enjoyed the morning.  Besides, I hit a few small jackpots, saw a show and came home a winner the next day.  I saw a bunch of people at the shopping mall pier opposite Ceasars, I don't know if anyone was fishing.  I read on a post from a couple of years ago that security was not bothering the fishermen there.   Can't say about recent times.
