They were catching lots of fluke(shorts) in the Manasquan Inlet yesterday on 4" swimming mullets in pink and white.  From reading, seems to be the consensus and preference on the list here as well!!

I know others will chime in and give you all the answers you might need or want.  Gulp baits are a very popular topic here!   ;D

What seems to be working as well are the 4" (white, pink or chartreuse) swimming minnow on the back of a 1oz or lighter bucktail in white or chartreuse.

The penny colored shrimp are doing well also especially when used on a smaller hook from 1/0 to 3/0.  Remember to try them both ways tail hooked or lip hooked.  Different days it seems to make a difference especially when they swim tail first usually.

Good Luck

Happy Catching

Paul

not fer nuthin'...
on Sunday (July 20th), up in Spring Lake, I watched a fellow with a 7' rod using a 3/4 oz bucktai & a teaser hook "baited" with a white 4" GULP Swim Minnow. He was working the suds very close to the beach, not much further out than the first wave. He managed to catch 11 flatties - 4 of which were keepers.

Yeah, I love 'em.  t^

BTW, they used to be called Swimming Minnows and they were changed to Swimming Mullets.  If you have a package from a few years back you might have one that says Minnow instead of Mullet. ;)

Greg 7,

I think we have them in stock.  I'll check it out tomorrow for you.

Luna,

The saltwater "Swimming Mullet" http://www.berkley-fishing.com/cat.php?k=96338&sk=96325 (http://www.berkley-fishing.com/cat.php?k=96338&sk=96325) (which is the curly tail "Mr. Twister" type bait) was originally called the "Swimming Minnow".  They later changed the name to "Swimming Mullet".  If you see the Saltwater Swimming Minnow (blue logo) it is the older package. That was the one I was referring to.

The "Minnow" http://www.berkley-fishing.com/cat.php?k=96330&sk=96325 (http://www.berkley-fishing.com/cat.php?k=96330&sk=96325) is one of their freshwater baits (although I'm sure you could use them in salt as well).  It is more along the lines of a FinS Fish or Zoom Fluke.

The "Minnow Grub" http://www.berkley-fishing.com/cat.php?k=96328&sk=96325 (http://www.berkley-fishing.com/cat.php?k=96328&sk=96325) , although it's the same shape as the "Swimming Mullet" is also one of their freshwater baits.

I hope that all makes sense. ;D

I believe its the 3" chartruese grub.

As far as Gulp Alive, we sell the 4" Swimming Mullet (curly tail grub) in chartreuse.  The 3" is only available in the package.

If you're buying the regular Gulp, the saltwater packages are blue and the freshwater packages are red.  They don't distinguish the saltwtater baits from the freshwater baits with the Gulp Alive.  Those buckets are all green.

Hi Brad,

I'am looking forward to read your report.  I have been using a number of different Gulp products this year but I have not had constant results with them, its like hit or miss but I find its used with a teaser tied up from a bucktail about 8"'s they work a lot better.

I will be going out tomorrow in back of IBSP on Sunday with the kayak to try dome gulp dunkin and mombo minnow splashin.

Happy Catching

Paul

Got out there at 9pm sat night and left at 8am sun morning. Not one bite, nothing at all. last cast i pulled in a 10.00 lure so it wasnt a total loss. Ill post the true results when i can find the fish. There was 2 other guys out there with 4 different types of live bait and they got nothing aswell. Just a dead run

Have used it several times with different results each time. found when used for bottom fishing that the fish if interested swallow deep. Blues nailed the mullet. Got shunked a few times too.

I have had very good luck with fluke this year at the hook and in Avon with white spro (1/2 to 1 oz) with a 3 inch white grub. Most short, but 5 in the 22 inch range. I found 1/2 hit the teaser with a gulp also. The last few days it's been getting pounded by snappers.
