Home made spro w/stinger hook
« on: March 13, 2009, 04:20:30 PM »
60# wire leader attached to the hook with a knot at the other end, inserted into the mold then poured in the lead.

What do you guys think?

mmmmmm tasty

maybe even try a hook tied 18" above it on a short lead so as not to tangle, tip with soething swimmy

sometimes when the BT is on the bottom if it is lethargic at all they will hit the upper one

Looks good! t^  I use the assist hooks (like you use on butterfly jigs) as stingers on my bucktails.

its a good idea but isnt the stiffness of the wire gonna stop you strip bait from having natural movement .We use braid so it is soft and flexable

Catfish,

it seems to have good flexibility, It's my first try with a stinger setup like this on a spro.

Once the Fluke season gets going I'll know if it works or not and post the results good or bad.

Hey bud, you can teach me how to use it on the Mohawk in the summer time for fluke.  I have a couple of sporo's and never used them.  But, I do not use a spinning rod and reel for fluke.  I use my Penn Squidder and I can't wait to use my NEW "Great American Fisherman" Rod.    ???

if it works that is great ,I use braid line for the above stated reson and so I can cut the line on a deep swallowed hook .I like the idea though I am gonna try it w/ piano wire

Catfish,

Good point about the braid, and piano wire will probably give more action than 60# wire.

We'll give it a try, it may need a little tweeking but I'll never know if I don't try. I love experimenting.

GAF,

Your on, I'll definitely do a Mohawk trip with you. Would be my pleasure.

A guy in Sea Girt made me a rod to match the now extinked Penn Long Beach.  I love those rods.  He even put my name on it for free.  Can't wait to use it.

Later!

The problem with braid used with the trailer hook is that it breaks very easy.  If you don't hook the fluke just right, they will bite right through the braid.  I use trailer hooks as well with smaller hooks though.  Size 2 octopus, 20lb mono works well for me and the action is still good.  With keeper fluke being at 18in, you really don't need a trailer hook.  But your like me, and want to land every fish that bites  ;D
There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot
