Raritan Bay 5/19
« on: May 19, 2009, 07:53:03 PM »
left out of Sayreville around 7:30 this morning with fishing buddy John.We had a bushel of fresh clams,on the way out made a stop over by Staten Island looking to get some bunker, didn't see any so headed straight for Romers Shoal, anchored and fishing by 8:30,within 10 minutes John gets one that's just a little over 27 inches, then we get a couple bluefish and thats it,except for some skates and spider crabs.spoke to Capt Carl(Wet Dreams) who was out in the area and also AJ (Peggy Lee)didn't sound like they were doing much better, spoke to Capt Carl later and he did have one in the box.stayed here thru the tide swing and then some, just before we pulled up,heard from Kpcoe and he wasn't fairing much better, moved back bay and set up on the flats around 1:30,sat here with no action whatsoever, then around 4 the wind picked up and actually wind and tide in the same direction, well the bite turned on,we had pretty much a steady pick from then until around 5:30 when we ran out of clams, caught a lot of shorts and big bluefish,at one point had 4 poles going at once, ended up limiting out with Bass of 29,31,32 and 34 inches, tried to get Kpcoe on the radio and call him over, had heard from him earlier he was at Old Orchard, but no answer, maybe he had gone in,also John spoke to his son John Sala in the hospital on the cell phone,it was a good day for him ,able to open both eyes and speak a little, when we got back took a nice picture of John with the the 34 incher to show his son, great day on the water today and a good day of fishing.  Kez
