5-30 Manasquan Fishing Trip
« on: May 30, 2009, 09:55:16 PM »
Left Manasquan inlet later than I wanted because of an engine issue, bropke inlet about 11am. Went north, cruised up, saw very few bunker on the surface, sounder showed alot of stuff below about 20 ft, likely bunker? Nothing pushing them up, knew I was in trouble. Tried to snag a few, so few and sparse, no luck. Tried trolling stretch 25's, nada. kept inching up north, saw guys jigging, livelining (maybe bunker were around earlier), fluking. Saw one guy bring in a blue, that's all. Did not see a single bass boated. Moved up th Shrewsbury rocks, No one bassing, lots fluking. Kid next to us said he had some keepers gotten on gulp. Since I had gulp, switched things up and fluked. Alot of bites, a few lines snagged on the rocks, but had 2 19 inchers and one 21 incher. All caught on pink swimmming mullet gulp. They love the gulp, rarely hit the fluke belly. Gulp is king in my book. Went back home, saw no bunler heading south at around 3 or so. Caught up at broken bridge traffic in Squan, tied up at Jack Bakers and had a burger with my Dad. A fellow fisherman there said he went south today, wall to wall bunker off Seaside, but no bass on them. He said last week was real good. I went bassing last Monday, nada- but everyone did real well last sunday- I guess I was a day late. I will stay the course and try to land some stripers soon.
