Man pulled from ocean dies
By Matt Pais • Staff Writer • June 2, 2009

POINT PLEASANT BEACH — A Pennsylvania man pulled from the ocean by members of the U.S. Coast Guard last night has died, police said.

Johnson Thomas, 25, of Philadelphia was apparently swept out around 7:20 p.m. when a large wave separated him from his two friends off the shore of the first beach south of the Manasquan Inlet, said Point Pleasant Beach Police Detective Patrick Petruzziello.

Police were notified and subsequently called the Coast Guard, whose members found Thomas unresponsive in the water.

A Coast Guard member began CPR on Thomas, who was then transported to Ocean Medical Center in Brick where he was later pronounced dead, authorities said.

The drowning remains under investigation by the township police department, Petruzziello said.

Not good...The water is still very cold as I can attest to as I tried it last week.  When my toes went numb I decided to get out.  But the bay on the other hand is really nice.  I put the kayak in to do some fish finder testing and some how flipped over.  I read the temp on the finder and it was above 73 degrees sweet.  I was waiting for the cold shock that never came.
