Sunday Raritan fluking...
« on: July 05, 2009, 06:07:08 PM »
Family trip that started way late after taking all morning to shake off yesterdays 4th "festivities"   chrz
Launched from KMB at the bottom of the tide by 1 PM. Worked a few dropoffs NE of the Keyport 1 can. Conditions sucked. Incoming against a w -sw wind and we spun in circles. Tried power drifting, but while tending to a 7 yr old and the wife, it wasnt easy.
Moved to the triangle hoping to get out of the breeze and move with current but it just didnt happen for us.
Totaled a bakers dozen, once AGAIN, no keeps. Pods of cocktails at the triangle kept my son busy and interested.
On an up note, he bucked up his first 2 fluke on a 1oz glo spro. Grant it, both fish went 11-12" but its a start!!!!
All fish came on bluefsih strips either on BT's or bait rigs. Surface water temps up to 76 on the incoming. Blowboaters and PWC'S EVERYWHERE!!!! Getting back to the start a drift felt like I was in a regatta!!!!
....the pic - forgot the headgear at home and had to improvise  ::)

Sounds like a great day out fishing with the family!  Bucktailing up 2 fluke is great...not the easiest thing to teach kids.  The kids don't seem to mind not catching keepers either...my son is happy with the bait we buy ;D!

Yeah. My first attempt at a build 2 winters ago. Came out OK. Defintely made some mistakes I need to correct on the next one.  Used a 6' 6" gator glass blank cut down to 6', fugi reel seat, red hypalon grips and blue fuji guides wrapped with red and blue thread.
He loves it, but his tastes are changing as he gets a little older!!  Might be an Iron Man build in the works this winter!!!
