Shark Fishing 7-3
« on: July 08, 2009, 10:01:15 PM »
Last Friday the Taylor Vee headed to the triple wrecks for some mako fishing. At the end of the trip we ended up going 1-3 and boated a nice 58 inch mako that was pretty plump.

Water tempature was changing from 66-68 depending on where we were in our drift. We were chumming pretty heavy as we had two chum bags in at once one being a bunker chum bag and the other bag being the new berkley gulp chum (which lasted all day about 8 hours).
We caught our keeper mako shark on a makerel with a yellow  skirt on it that was set at 30 feet in depth. We also caught about 10 nice size bluefish that we fillited up and put on lines (the two other sharks that hit both hit on the blufish fillet). One of those jumped completely out of the water about 20 feet from the boat and spit the hook... so close....
By the end of the day we had a succseful fising trip  chrz until the ride home.
About ten miles from home we noticed something wrong with the way the boat was running. There was a steady smell of burning rubber that my dad at first thought was the holding tank as two of our guests had gone below to use the head. However the odor persisted and then we noticed a slight vibration of the boat, Upon opening the day hatch to the engine room we noticed the port engine was vibrating pretty heavy. Dad then noticed the port engine temp started to peak and rose about 15 degrees. At the same time we started to smell a heavy odor of diesel fumes. Also noticed a black cloud of diesel trailing behind us. We decided to turn the port engine off. After further investigation in the engine room we couldn't see anything. Deciding not to take any chances Dad started the port engine and left it in neutral to keep the shaft and parts lubed and we limped in.  :-X Took us an extra hour and half to get back to our dock but we made it safely and got the mako filleted up. We enjoyed it blackened off the grill on Sunday and are waiting for the Cummins mechanic to come to check out the boat.
Pictures to follow!

the deisel machenic just left my house and said that we lost an injector. that still doesnt explain about the white smoke which smelt like anti freeze. my friend who is also my neighboor  said he would be able to fix the injector easy all we need now is to know the source of the white smkoe

Nice shark!

That's a nice pic of you at the helm of the boat.  Boat looks great!  Good job.

Hopefully you can get the boat fixed quicker than 4 weeks 5hrug?
