Reel Class Fluke 7/13
« on: July 13, 2009, 07:09:42 PM »
Had John Toth, Jeremiah Jacobs, Ryan Helmstetter and Roberto Rodriguez aboard for a FTYP trip today.

First ran north, to fish some snags 4-6 miles off. A lot of short fluke on these pieces, no keepers, a ling, and a few seabass rounded out the catch. No drift, really no movement whatsoever. I decided to run back to the south, and drifted around another wreck and pulled a couple of nice seabass, as well as another couple of small ling, and short fluke, but that was it. We also found some current out of the S here.

Continued south, fished pretty much where we were last Monday in 70-80' of water between the rough spots and got a fair pick going of mostly short fluke in the 10-17.5" class, but picked enough keepers between the shorts to keep us on this spot. Long drifts, S current and increasing S wind made it possible to drift right up through the open spots so we could catch in patches.

Wound up with a few nice seabass to 2.5#, a couple of ling, and ~40 fluke to 21" and ~4# taken by Roberto, who also had the biggest seabass. Wound up with 10 in the box, solid day, we really had to work to put a catch together but we came home with some meat for the boys

Nice catch Capt Allen. It was tuff out there today with the lack of drift. Not a bad haul for the conditions.  t^
