Raritan Reach, Keyport Flats, 7/15 Evening
« on: July 16, 2009, 02:04:16 PM »
Tombo and I decided to forego our usual Weds nite mountain biking and try a few hours drifting for the elusive keeper flatfish. We both did our best to exit from work on time but it was almost 6:30 before we could get lines off.

Headed out to the Reach drifting the channel edges both sides from the 8 up to the 18. Conditions were flat with a slight southeast breeze. Combined with outgoing tide, it made for a slow drift northwards.

Tom was dragging the killie/squid sammich and I bucktailed; tipped with you name it- squid gulp spearing, even threw some shrimp in for S's & G's. We got zilch. I'm blaming Tombo- his new nickname: "Black Cloud aka Skunk"

As the light began to fade (and also the tide,) we moved closer near the Keyport 1, still drifting north. A couple unproductive drifts then worked in to the 3, then the 5, then eff it, back to the slip for a soda and an easy cleanup.

Few trips in a row now with no keeps; gonna have to make a run to some deeper water next if I can string together more than a few hours to fish. I hope you enjoy the picture of our catch....

Catch em up!

Nice try Warren.

Hmmmm, 12 pound fluke. That beats the total weight of keepers on some of my trips recently.  :P
