Reel Class Fluke 8/3
« on: August 03, 2009, 07:35:56 PM »
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Had Ron McClelland charter the boat today (ReelRon). With Ron were Greg V, Bruce, and Mike.

Ran south to fish some snags and such in 65-75' of water. Southerly swell early on made it a little tough, but it backed off quickly. Got into a little bite with shorts early on some rubble, but that petered out real quick so I made a move further south.

Fishing between 2 rockpiles on some soft stuff we had a slow, but steady pick for a good portion of the day when the breeze was blowing NW or NNE. We would pick a few here, a few there, then catch nothing, then get back into them. Weird bite. As I said, for the most part, it was a slow, steady pick. Mixed in with the fluke were some skates, a few birds, some seabass, and a ling.

Wound up boating ~45 fluke, of which 12 were keepers to just over 6#, as well as several in the 18-20" range as well as a couple around 3-4#. We also added 2 keeper seabass to the box.

I took my best fish of the year thus far at 6 lbs. 1 oz. Ron wound up with 5 keepers, Greg, Bruce, and Mike also caught their share of fish. Ron and Greg bucktailed all day, and did well - when Bruce switched over he added a keeper as well.

Real good day, great company with the 3 amigos on board!!
