Reel Class Fluke 8/17
« on: August 17, 2009, 05:48:32 PM »
Had the Saltwater Anglers of Bergen County aboard today for a fluke trip. The group consisted of the President John Toth, as well as Roberto, Joe, and Jim.

Ran offshore to the snag we fished on Saturday. First drop, about 30 seconds, we decked a nice 20" keeper, which was quickly followed by another, then 2 more on the second drift. After that, it dried up. Bounced around a little, caught some shorts, and 1 3# seabass by Roberto, then boated another nice fluke of 25"/5# by Roberto on the following drift.

S wind started puffing a bit, so we had a little bit better drift but things shut off. Only other action we had was Roberto hooking an estimated 70-80# cownose (probably the biggest one I've ever seen!) on his MXL/Crowder combo. Got it to the boat after chasing it down, only to have the leader part as we were preparing to snap a quick pic.

Thereafter, we got into a good bite well inshore of where we were in 40-50' of water on open bottom with bucktails and long teasers tipped with Fin-S or pink gulp and 2 fresh spearing. Added several more keepers here, all fish taken that were kept in this area were 19-22". Lots of shorts as well.

We had a solid day, boated ~50 fluke, with 11 going in the box to 5#, and 1 lone 3# seabass. Roberto, who is pretty new to fluking, put 5 in the box, Joe put in 3, and so on... Great crew - probably gonna see them again next week  t^
