Got the Z'OB repaired last week but had to wait out the weather to make any runs. Brother Jay and his buddy Brian headed out with me on Sunday after noon to see how water conditions were and if the fish were cooperating. Netted a slew of spearing with the umbrella net. Those little suckers love Pepperidge Farm hamburger rolls. They've been in the cabin since mid-summer and still aren't showing any sign of mold. Now that's some real good perservatives. Pushed off around two and headed outside to try some lumps and humps. Beautiful flat seas. Easy goin. First stop and Jay drop set on a fluke just a half inch shy. Dehooked and returned. Picked away at a couple of small CB's and a couple of more small fluke. Boxed two keep seabass on squid topped off with live spearing. Called it a day at 5:30 headed back to the barn.
Monday scheduled launch with Capt's Don Jr and Sr. 6:30 and we are motoroing outside with similar conditions as Sunday's flat seas. Went south past the reef and had a slow pick of seabass. Made several drifts in 50 to 60 but the drift was screaming. At times we had difficulty holding with 10 oz. The pick didn't turn into a bite until we hit slack and thereafter. Spearing seem to be the bait of choice. We managed to scratch out 8 decent seabass and one porgy for our efforts. Overall , not a stellar catching day but the weather (aside from a steady wind) sure was perfect. Called it quits around 2:45 and headed back to clean up and sip a cold one.
