Capt. John/ Reel Fun/ Inshore Outlook
« on: September 17, 2009, 03:03:48 PM »
Fellow anglers,

Luckily fishing seems to be heating up a little right now:

If anyone wants Bluefish, then they are at these 3 main places now for the taking........in Raritan Bay, Shrewsbury Rocks and the Mud Buoy. Both jigging (ocean) and chumming (Shrewsbury Rocks) with bunker are working. And these are some real "Alligators" being caught so let's get in on the action.

Weakfish, although most are shorts, are showing in the Navesink and Shrewsbury Rivers fishing sandworms on ultra light tackle. Great fun on light spinning reels and light rods with a fast taper. Best fishing for weaks is first light in the morning because when other boats show up it's all over as these fish are very skittish.

Stripers, mostly shorts again, are also in the Shrewsbury River as well at at the "Rip" at first light drifting sands in the river and eels at the "Rip". Schoolies are also showing at various places in the Raritan Bay at first light and at dusk.

So just because the Fluke season is over, doesn't mean that fishing is done! One final note: Albies are showing for those who want to troll small spoons or cast small metals to these speed-burners. It usually takes some hunting around, but if you're patient you could be in for a real blast once you locate them.

Tight Lines and Following Seas,

Capt. John
