catfish's turtle report
« on: June 16, 2007, 11:20:50 AM »
was short on time today so I went to a local lake in search of a turtle for dinner ,as I walked down a creek line I saw a nice sized snapper so I started to run in after it and got stuck in the mud so I had to back out and follow it up the creek ,I pitched a line to it and he grabbed hold so I pulled it in on the way back to the truck I was able to grab one more around 20 lbs. but couldnt carry both a half mile out so I kept the bigger of the 2

I hit up alot of ponds in central nj ,every body of water has them ,if I am gonna take people I hit up a local river that I have a permit for so we can take as many as we want , they are good eating just like anything else you have to know how to cook it ,I am gonna go this week and land a couple so we can try and make some sausage and some jerky

anywhere there is water in middlesex county ,a 70 lb turtle is unheard of that is a huge turtle they always look alot bigger till they hit a scale ,I been turtlin for 25 years and only saw one or two over fifty.I only hit a pond a time or 2 a year some I dont wipe it out , there are some lakes that need to have a dozen a year takin so I do ,this year I have not gone as much but I am gonna start to fill the freezer soon ,I need about 100 lbs of meeat

I had a big ole bast@rd try and steal my crappie on a farm pond.  He was the size of a garbage can lid. Nasty looking.  Do you shoot them with Bow/Arrow or spear them?  Sounds like fun......dangerous but fun.

Disregard the question about method of fishing.  I read your other report.  Where do you grab them?

the safest place to grab them is by the tail or back legs ,there were times that I could only grab them by the neck and it works but it is a stupid way to grab them
