Brooklyn Piers
« on: October 20, 2009, 08:44:56 PM »
Hello ALL, I've been reading your site for a LONG time and value the wealth of info. Even took a trip on one of your boats a few weeks ago. Anyway, I just wanted to chime in. I fish a pier in Brooklyn nearly every week day for about a half hour ( I make a delivery there) and the schoolie Stripers are all over the place. Also pulled a 36" Blue last week.
Thanks for letting me in your little community.
Tim

Thanx for the welcome guys!
I deliver dry cement to the Lehigh pier (between the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges) So, I take a "break" when I'm done. Been doing it for many years. I am limited to artificials since I'm driving a tractor trailer from Pennsylvania, but I do quite well with swim shads and I even caught a few fluke last month on bucktails.
I just need a few stripers so that I can try some of those burgers that you guys make.

Years ago we did really well there with grass shrimp along the piers. We put multiple shrimp on a baitholder hook and would float it toward the piers with a small split shot. It was a killer bait for stripers. With the new soft baits, I would be interested in seeing how it would work with an artifical shrimp. Joe

Well I have been trying an artificial squid, goldish color about 4" long. Caught a few 18-20" with it but it seems that if the fish are there it doesn't seem to matter what I use. Been slow lately tho, with the nasty weather.
Of course, I don't always have the best timing. I just fish for 15-30 minutes whenever I am there. Usually between 8 and 10 AM
