10/25 Squan Skunks
« on: October 25, 2009, 08:34:01 PM »
Headed out late this morning to try and avoid some of the wind. Broke the inlet to a stiff NNW the made for a snotty ride out as we turned north.

The plan was to look for life and jig and if that failed troll. Well it failed alright as we saw nothing.  5hrug Setup trolling with 2 umbrellas out back. One with tubes and the other shads. We trolled, trolled, trolled, and trolled some more. Had  a few bumps but nothing that came tight. Saw no life except for a few scattered birds the whole time. The fishfinder was covered with fish in about 40-45 feet most often.  5hrug Covered alot of ground around Shark River north and south. Am I missing something here?

The wind died down like it was sposed too and we decided to setup on some marks and jig. We also chunked bunker and wound up with a dogfish.  t^

Next time.

Good try Bill. Get em next time. It was a tad slow out there today.

I was monitoring the vhf while working yesterday and heard some nice fish reported while they were anchored near the outer bar of Little Egg Inlet. Clams I believe were the bait. Capt.Matt

You gave it a good shot ..... I heard guys caught bass on the troll up @ the rocks yesterday  Maja Spoons  wire line  and a good spoon rod .... Hey you guys have to try the Tony Maja Rod Riggers they are expensive but the are hands down the best rod rigger on the market ....

I spoke to a couple of guys up toward Long Branch that reported a few on the troll. We saw some really good marks south of there and made a couple passes on it to no avail and by that time didn't feel like running all the way up there. Thats and I haven;t tried any bunker spoons yet.

Oh well.

Joe I tried callin ya towards the end of the day but I guess you were in already.
