The Mackeral Are Here
« on: January 15, 2010, 12:45:50 PM »
Me, Bob G, Capt Mike and Dennis jumped on the MBP out of Belmar to try for mackeral.

The boat filled up fast with patrons, over 80 fares for the trip.

Made about an hour run to the east side of the mud hole and started our drifts for mackeral. The captain kept the boat on the fish, continually moving as needed.

After the day was done Capt Mike and Dennis each filled their five gallon bucket. Me and Bob G put enough mackeral and herring in an eighty qt cooler to fill it more than three quarters.

If you need bait, or like to eat mackeral, now is the time to go.  t^

Your welcome Wats. I hear they had a full boat again today. Catch em up if you go.  t^

Capt Carl, I feel the same way. I got them to feed the fish in the summer. Of course, they will have a hook in them when I do it.  ;D

Hey Jeff
Glad to see that you made up with Spongebob.

Your right Rich, but I can take you back a little further
25-30 ago we'd fish in the shadow of Ambrose tower and catch a garbage cans full of mack's, then go down to the bottom and catch 2-3 garbage cans of whiting, most people had old refrigerators in their back yards converted to smokers. we caught alot of ling but nobody kept them in those days we called them sewer trout
Then at night the ocean piers would load up with anglers catching whiting , BASEBALL BATS fish 4 ft long unreal I remember my first big whiting I didn't know what it was
And thats all gone now, net boats took every last one, they destroyed the habitate by dragging cabels across the bottom to spook the fish into the nets and they haven't been back since
I guess thats what NO regulation does/ no one was watching

It was actually my dad who had a problem, saying a 16 year old shouldn't have a stuffed animal. So I blew him up. Poof!

Capt Rich. Because of the size of the mackeral now a days it doesn't take much of a container to hold a half a hundred to a hundred mackeral.

Years ago these things would have gone back to sea.  :P
