Raritan Bay Stripers and Blues 5/7
« on: May 07, 2010, 05:51:14 PM »
out the house this morning with all gear on board vhf hooked up,Gps fish finder hooked up,fresh 1/2 bushel of clams and about 5 bunker, pick up John and head for Sayreville ramp,my goal was to be heading down the river before sun up.stop at Quikcheck in Sayreville and send John in to get a bag of ice,I jump on the boat and notice a life jacket laying on my console, didn't have hasp closed on console seat, lost 2 life Jackets.still had 2 one for each,go to get in truck, which is running, acciddently locked doors getting out  nosmly ,call friend Ken who had texted me a message but was on his way to work, sent his wife down Hon with a T square and a wedge, was able to pop door and push window down button to get in,performing our own lockout, this put me about a 1/2 hour behind.around 6:15 heading down river.started trolling stretches just before the Triangle area and pick up a couple Jumbo Blues, troll our way near the area fished wednesday and nothing else, decide to reel in and go on the hook and bait fish.as John reeling his in gets a fish on,get it in and it's a Striped one just over 27 inches,so we decide to continue dragging the stretches with no further hook ups, finally go on the hook and set up bait fishing with the clams and bunker chunks, spend the morning catching giant blues.it was a good way to test your tackle because we sure had bent poles and stretched lines.when the tide went slack around 10,pulled up and headed towards Keansburg and set out dragging the stretches, was able to hookup with a few more shorts.when the tide changed went on the hook clamming and picked a few shorts, finally I was able to put one in the box just over 29 inches.picked up here and trolled part way to back bay and pick a few blues on the stretches.went on the hook and chummed heavy with the remaining clams with no further hook ups.headed in around 2,in all caught 6 Stripers and more than a dozen large blues, not a bad day on the water with the action.the way the day started I was expecting the worse.also heard from AJ(Peggy Lee)on the radio, heard him put out a Shout for Rick(Still Running)who put his boat in today,so I gave a shout to AJ and talked to him as he was just heading out, wished him luck and hope he did well. have pics to post but waiting on USB cable for my camera.will put up when it comes in.      Kez

Not bad for that kind of start.

We only fished for about 3 hours and nothing but blues. Still a nice day out and we are good to go
Fishing Sandy Hook and anywhere I can get on a boat.
