May 14th Raritan Bay
« on: May 14, 2010, 09:16:07 PM »
Finally got the boat out on the water with the new engine and glad to report not a single mishap!  Finally got to actually fish.  Left Keyport Muni at about 10am after a late start.  Motored over to the Keansburg hole and pullud up a decent size bluefish, but wasn't marking anything there so headed out to the 11a an then Flynn's Knoll and got nada.  Had one Striper follow my spoon up to the boat but otherwise nothing.  Made my way back towards Keansburg around 3:30 and saw a ton of birds working just west of the hole.  Pulled along side and slaughtered Bluefish up to about 12 pounds.  Literally threw my spoon at them and nailed one every time.  I think I pulled up about 7 in a row.  My god father is my #1 fishing partner and was with me today.  He landed a few blues himself.  Did not see or hear of anyone hitting Stripers, but the blues are a bunch of fun and better than the Skunk.  All in all a fun day and back to shore before the storm.  Was like a lake out there.

t^  What did you buy?

1997 Johnson 130 HP.  My old one was 1985 Merc 115 HP.  The VRO is disconnected, so now I have to mix the fuel directly in the tank.  Kind of a pain over the old direct inject, but well worth the trouble.

With the older motors.. it's a good Idea to disconnect the VRO and just premix. This way there is never a concern of too much or too little.. or total failure t^
