Wet Dreams Striped Bass 5/26/10
« on: May 26, 2010, 09:51:46 PM »
Back in October of last year a call went out to the members of NJSWF looking for their support.  Tommy Hare, who is Bob "Hareball" Hare's nephew had been stricken with cancer and the family's medical bills were piling up.  In order to help alleviate some of the burden of these bills a fundraising dinner was arranged and the call went out.  http://njsaltwaterfisherman.com/forums/index.php?topic=13797.0

One member who responded in a big way was site sponsor Capt. Carl DiMenna of Wet Dreams Sportfishing in Highlands, NJ.  Capt. Carl, in his generosity, donated a full day striper charter to be raffled off at the banquet.  And, as luck would have it, I won the trip! ;D

The charter sailed today with Hotrod, Capt. Joe of the Irish Ayes, Jerry "Marshhawk", my brother-in-law Tom and yours truly.  Our favorite mate, Boo Boo, rounded out the crew.  Reports of snotty seas outside made the decision to stay inside and anchor an easy one for the captain.  That decision proved to be a good one.

Once on the hook Boo Boo started a chum slick and it wasn't long before I got to shout out those welcome words, "Fish on!"  Most of the fish today were taken on clams.  Throughout the day the bunker were popping up here and there, but never really got close enough to snag a lot of them.  But, thanks to the Carl's expertise with the weighted treble we were able to catch a few to liveline.  Tom caught the biggest fish of the day which fell for one of those freshly snagged bunkers.  That fish went a little over 20 lbs.

Rod struggled a little throughout the day.  And, as the time grew short, it seemed that he might not get one today.  However, with just a couple of grains of sand left in the hourglass, Rod set the hook in a nice 30"-32" striper.  After a spirited fight, Boo Boo put the net under it and laid it on the deck!

We had our 5 man limit, but didn't keep that many.  Most of the fish caught were released to fight another day.

It was a terrific day out there today!  Perfect weather, exceptional company, a lot of laughs, and some great fishing!

For those of you looking to fish the Highlands area, Capt. Carl runs a fantastic operation.  Everything about this boat is first class.  Thanks so much to Capt. Carl and Boo Boo for an awesome day today! t^
