Comfort Zone HI-MAR recap
« on: June 07, 2010, 08:40:36 AM »
Fri around noon I met up with Bass Kid (aka TJ).

We pushed off at 12:30 pm and as soon as we got outside of Morgan the Back Bay was loaded with Bunker.

TJ got his cast net ready and 2 throws we had easily 200 Bunker.

After the live well was full off we went.

We were on our way down the beach to do alittle scouting but we saw a big school of Bunker in the reach Channel. We put 2 live baits down and within minutes we were hooked up.My first Bass was 25 lbs.TJ hooked up next as he was taking a picture of the 1st Bass I boated. We had a crazy bite the next 2 hrs. There were times when the 2 of us were hooked up.There were no other boats around us.At 4 pm we headed back to the dock cleaned up the crime scene and we drove over to Twin Lights marina for the Captains Meeting.

Knowing we had room for 1 more guy to join us. I called my friend John to see if he wanted to fish with us on Day 1.John got back to me in 20 minutes & he told me he was in.

Fri night Instead of going home I checked into a hotel because our plan was to leave the dock 4 am Sat morning. After the captains meeting I headed over to the Keyport Fishery and munched out.At 9:30 pm I checked into the hotel.

I watched some TV but I was trying to come up with a game plan for Sat.I finally tried falling asleep but I tossed around all night.

I think I slept 1 hr.

Jumped in the shower & met up with John at 3:30 am.

John followed me to the marina.

We parked our cars & loaded our gear on the Bass Kids Comfort Zone.Bass Kid arrived 5 minutes later.

As we were taking the dock lines off I turned to TJ & asked him what his plan was he said Art lets go down the beach and set up on the same #'s in 52.5 ft of water.I smiled and said TJ I agree.

About an hr later we arrived and TJ dropped the anchor.

I suggested we give the spot a half hr.I started a slick but the lines were not laying right  and as we were getting ready to move TJ had a run off.So we stayed another half hr and nothing was going on.

TJ took as closer to the beach and we worked our way north. We tried alot of different spots but all we could do is catch Bluefish. The 3 of us fished hard but it wasn't meant to be.

The 3 of us felt like someone beat us up   nosmly

We got back to the dock and washed down the boat & I said guys we did not catch Bass but we had fun.

I turned to TJ and Said go home get some sleep tomorrow is another day.

Sat afternoon I went back home and crashed out till 2 am Sun morning.
When I woke up I felt like a million dollars

I met TJ at 4am & I was surprised TJ did not have anyone else that wanted to join us.

So the 2 of us pushed off at 4:15 am but we were both concerned about the weather.

We stayed local and set up on some #'s and Started a slick.TJ boated the 1st Bass within 15 minutes. We boated 2 more after TJ first but they were not Tournament winning Fish. The dog sharks were thick and we had no choice but to move.TJ made another move and we started a slick and 5 minutes later we boated another Bass but once again it was not a Tournament winning fish.Once again the Dog Fish started stealing our baits.

We moved over to the NY side and we found a huge school of Bunker. We netted more bait and searched around.I saw Capt Frank Masseria set up in the area we wanted to set up but he wasn't doing much. We set up in another spot and we caught nothing but Bluefish. The wind picked up and it got nasty so we gave up.We took a few drifts for Fluke but even that was slow for us.

TJ it was great fishing with you 3 days in a row.

A big thanks my Friend   t^

Nice report Art. You guys gave it a good shot, can't do any more than that. Maybe no tourney winner but you had fish and more important, you had fun.  t^
