Tuna Overnighter 8/14 and 8/15
« on: August 16, 2010, 07:47:24 AM »
The Hot Tuna and its charter braved some strong East winds on Saturday mid-day to head offshore for a 24 hour canyon chunking trip.  The charter party, organized by Mike Kellogg and his adventuresome 5 colleagues, kept spirits high, not withstanding the sloppy weather.  Even though the winds laid down nicely for the overnight chunking portion of the trip, it  had limited success with only one small mako (released), but at least a hundered  squid attracted to Hot Tuna's underwater light were netted which the party plans to make into numerous Calamari meals.  The evening and morning trolling portions of the trip produced 4 yellowfin, a wahoo and bonito.  Capt Bob Gerkens of the Hot Tuna was assisted on the charter by  Capt. Fran Verdi, who took a day off from his own charters on the Cousins and Drop Off to run the cockpit for the Hot Tuna, with the assistance of the Hot Tuna's Junior Mate Pat Zavacky.
