Phyllis Ann - Offshore Tuna - Bloody Decks (Video Added)
« on: August 20, 2010, 10:36:59 PM »
Our first offshore trip for the Phyliis Ann.
With Bucktail, Capt. Carl and Jeff.

Met up with Capt. Mike and harball in Barnegat inlet around 4:am.  Set course for the "secret" spot.  75 miles NE. arrived to a fleet of boats..

backed off the throttle.  found some nice marks and told the guys to drop..

I pulled my rod out of the rod storage.. drop my jig to the bottom. and on the second crank.. it was fish on!..

What a fight.  probably a good 35 minutes of give and take and we landed a nice 64# Fish.

Headed back South a few to find Mike on some good Marks.  Bucktail drops down and Fish On.
Another back breaking blast and we boat another 60# Fish.

We had some LARGE Bluefin breaking water and hanging around the boat while we threw spearing..... every one hooked up.. but there was no getting these fish to the boat...everyone broke off at one time or another.

From there on there was a lot of action for everyone.. Jeffrey fought 4 Fish.. going 1-4 with a shark.. Capt. Carl and Bob fought numerous Fish.. with Capt Carl landing a nice False Albie Skip Jack :headscra:

Just having the chance to feel the power these fish have..  is 90% of the fun....with out boating them t^

We have some great Pics and video.  ..  I'll see what I can get up..

Guys i had a blast! thank you for having me along...lauging all day, fighting big fish and ball busting. Big thanks to Capt. Mike and Hareball as well.

Highlight of the day...watching Bucktail FIGHT AND LAND a 46 inch Bluefin after a 45 minute battle...using only his thumb as his drag (the fish burned up his drag in the 1st 5 minutes of the fight)....WOW cfzd
Thumbs up to the B.B.C. (and Jeff fish of course!)

Watching and hooking up to that pod of massive Bluefin was a close second!

Awesome, awesome trip!  Rod did a fantastic job today putting us on the fish, as well as putting in about 10 hours behind the wheel to and from the canyons.

It was great getting out to fish with Capt. Carl and Jeffish again.  Definitely a fun time and a ton of laughs with this crew! ;D

I will also thank Mike and Hareball on the Reel Time, who got into some fish as well.

BTW, both Rod and I have some video that will hopefully soon be edited into a You Tuber.

Great trip! t^

And for the BBC... :headscra: ;D

Trip was siiiick ;D
Great job today Rod and crew! you guys had the magic touch today slt

The ocean as always put on a good show, HUGE whales, dolphin all around the boat and riding off the bow, and a great sunrise!

I'm cooked, my fish almost had me crying. My strike drag is around 35-40 pounds and that fish used every bit of it and more for over an hour. Gear used was a Lamiglas with roller tip and a Shimano Torsa 30, leader was 60 pound on a circle hook tipped with a sardine.

Here is a bunch of pics, the one that looks like a slick was the whales but I missed them. The first pic is for Rod...you come a long way man!

Again great trip guys! And to Capt. John of Seafood Charters it was nice talking to you out there today!

Congratulations on your first and obviously very successful first offshore Tuna trip.
Great photos. Keep them coming.

If you guys shoved off at 4am what time did you get back after 150 miles and time to fish?
The Phyllis Ann must really move.

Man, what can I say. My first tuna trip, almost all the way out to the tip of the hudson. Who knew?  :headscra:

It was just a sight to see for me. Seeing the green water I usually see at the beach turn into cobalt blue water. It's just something to see, and I can proudly say I did. A big, big, BIG thanks to Hotrod for bringing me along, and thanks to Capt Carl and Bucktail ( :headscra: ) for showing me how it's done!

The fishing turned on late for me, as I was tired and had a lack of sleep. My first fish I hooked into may have been on the small side, who knows. :headscra: After I got done saying "This is fighting like a bluefish guys", he began to take drag, and take drag he did. Not so small anymore eh? :headscra: Fishing slowed down a tad for me until I saw tuna breaking water. I immediately grabbed the nearest rod and put a jig on it, and sent it to the bottom. Or at least I thought I sent it to the bottom. The jig traveled no more then 40 feet, and it was game on. The feeling of having a fish that is that strong is just incredible. That fish took it and ran with it. If the video ever makes it up, it's a rod with green line on it.

Once again, I would like to thank all those who came with me, Hotrod, Capt Carl, Bucktail, Capt Mike, and Hareball..or is it Harball.. :headscra: Either way, it was fun times, and a chance of a lifetime for me to be out there.
