11/7 surf northern ocean county
« on: November 07, 2010, 09:29:57 PM »
Good bass fishing at last in my local area. With the heavy surf since Thursday the bass are finally getting hungry. Sand eels are thick !Snagging them regularly on the jig. They can be a little fussy on color but yellow and green tails and teasers worked for me.Some guys used black and caught too.Low tide the last 2 days was very good.Be prepared to go out on the bars. Right in the middle of the day ! This afternoon I fished from 1PM till 3PM and had 4 bass on yellow to 32",10.5# Left the fish biting to see the GIANTS game. 41-7 WOW. GO GIANTS  ;D

Thanks for the tip Joe  ;D With the strong north to south current today the teasers caught at least half my fish.I've been using those sportfish red gills in green and yellow with 3-4 oz diamonds no tails and letting it sweep with the tide. Anyway good fishing again today ! Bass to 32" 10#. It doesn't get much better.  ;D

With the conditions this week, what kind of retreive has been working for you guys?  Slow, quick, twitches?

Most of my strikes have been after a long cast past the waves on the few turns of the reel. popping the rod and just slowly turning the reel handle.Very few if any strikes in close. There was a strong north to south current.as the lures swings let it roll. The 4 oz jig was best and most fish on the teaser. Hope this helps  ;D

Today was seemed like the long cast would work but I have to tell ya all the fish I saw caught were withing 20 yards of the beach.  As far as retrieve a medium to almost fast seemed to work.  I was using as were most out there using A27's and catching and casting with no problem as for most of the day the wind was out of the NW.

Good luck tomorrow, not sure what I am doing tomorrow is I get the word I just might go out for a couple of hours.

Paul, that was where they were biting for me too however the current was strong out there which made it a little frustrating

Frustrating, understood.  But it was not impossible.  The currents were strong and that is when I go to a moderate fast retrieve.  It seemed to work especially yesterday.
