Favorite fluke bait

What is everyone's favorite or go to fluke baits? Mine is squid and sand eel.

Hi cwbsbll1,

That is just as good as any other, especially in years with good amounts of sand eels in the area.

I like snappers in late Summer; killies/squid or spearing/squid in Spring/Early Summer; and Peruvian Smelt anytime.

Good catching,

Capt. Ed

Medium or large spearing coupled with a belly strip--pretty much anywhere.

Hi-lo rig baited with a single spearing when fishing flats.

Jumbo lively killie when there is no drift.

Live 3-5" snapper late July-through end of fluke season. Same for live peanut bunker.

Any type of small crab that might be caught on shells, rocks, junk etc. My son loves using these.

Mantis shrimp, even if previously digested.

very large strip of squid with a sand eel gulp attached to a spro on one hook, and a very large spearing or smelt on a spro on the other..
Fish out of Toms River NJ.

Have had good success with sea robin strips and peanut or spearing.  Spro works well in the right water tipped with gulp sand eel chartruese with the trailer set up with squid and spearing.
