Fishguts 7/29 Manasquan river fluke
« on: July 30, 2011, 04:23:30 PM »
On 7/29 I had Guy,Caz, and Joe scheduled for an all day wreck trip. With the high south winds I suggested to the crew that rather than cancell them out I would be happy to change it to a half day bay fluke trip. With Capt Jerry from the Fish Monger reporting great action in the river and a need to find cover from the south wind we head north. A call from Capt Jerry that the ocean was a washing machine  and that he was bailing fluke in the river made the choices even sweeter. The mongers called us right in on a non stop bite of short fluke and a few nice 19" keepers and plenty of double header shorts. The 16" to 17.5" short fish had the drags screaming on the light trout rods. We called it a short day before lunch after the 3 anglers released 75 plus short fish and put 3 nice keepers on ice. A real fun  way to spend a windy morning. Thanks for the call Mongers

LOL its less fuel than Barnegat at about 4 gallons each way and its a real nice place to be in a hard south wind. The canal eats up a little time is you have to fight the tide but its really no biggie.

that may be another option for me since I am on the North side of the Toms River Bridge... what would you say, from the bridge to there... half hour or so at 28mph or so...
