Barnegat Bay 9-4-11 (Fish IDs Needed)
« on: September 04, 2011, 08:39:37 PM »
Headed back to the same spot I fished yesterday for about 3 hours this evening. Lots of blowfish like yesterday but no bluefish today. Also caught 2 fish that I'm not sure what they are. The first one looks like a regular porgy except it has thin bright blue and yellow horizontal lines across its body and a black spot up by its gill. The next one I'm completely clueless about. It was long, thin and black with 2 horizontal white lines on its body and had no teeth. At first I thought it was a reymora but it didn't have the suction cups on top. Help me figure out what there are. Thanks.

Nice catch again!

The first fish is a porgy and the second one looks like a juvenile cobia!

Cobia in the Barnegat Bay?  Did they hitch a ride with the lizardfish?  :headscra:

I never caught one, but yes, it does look like a cobia.

First is not a porgy, it's a pinfish. Very common down south. Great tarpon bait. I'll agree the other looks like a cobia but hard to be sure in the picture

Thanks for the response guys. I googled juvenile cobia and pinfish and I'm pretty sure that's what they were.
