Irish Ayes Shark River Reef Cod Day 2
« on: October 10, 2011, 08:01:21 PM »
Today's crew consisted of me, Peter and Dennis. We motored out to the Shark River reef again and stopped on our cod spot from yesterday and put the lines down.

It was a slow morning with few bites. At about 11 am we moved to our number 2 spot on the reef. Well, we had better than number 2 conditions on this spot as we  started catching cod almost immediately. We drifted this area for the remainder of the day and loaded the cooler with a dozen keeper cod. We also released the same amount of short cod. The only difference today was there were no porgies and only a handful of huge sea bass (all released).

Hope to be at it again over the weekend.  t^

Thanks for the report. The reef is about 15 miles from Manasquan correct? How is the boat traffic out there usually? I have a 23' WA that is new to me this year and I have comfortably fished the Sea Girt reeft but, like most I am looking for a little more variety but, still want the comfort of some others nearby.

Any info for a newbie would be great. Feel free to private message me if you'd rather.

fellinger, today there were five head boats at the reef and several private boats. On a day like today or yesterday (weather wise) you should have no problem getting to the reef. It is about 15 miles from Manasquan, correct.

Plenty of rock piles to fish and several wrecks on the reef. You should have no problem finding a spot to fish. If you don't have a reef book that covers all the NJ reefs you should purchase one (if you can find one as they are out of print). I believe there may be online access to the reefs.

Good luck if you go.  t^

I just found this. Open the site and pick the reef you want. Open that and you will get the lat and long of the structure.  t^
