Last Call 8/18-8/19.........when things go BOOM!
« on: August 20, 2007, 07:41:28 AM »
Well, all present and accounted for at the dock and we left the slip by 12:15am Sunday morning.  Pulling out of the marina, give her some gas to get up on plane, and the power seems to be a little lacking.  No big deal I think, full tank, 4 guys, bait, wind, etc. maybe just me.  She's up on plane and all is good....until the first noise.  Sounds like a ping from some bad gas, back her down and noise stops.  We pull the engine cover, all seems well, no unusual noises, not hot, all good.  Off we go again......second noise shows up and it sounds like something is caught in a fan.  Now, there's no fan so this begins to concern me.  Again, back it down and the noise goes away.  We check the oil, all is well, looks good.  Back up on plane we go.....then the death rattle arrives.  Lower end bearing noise without a doubt.  Pull back on the throttle and she does a rap-a-tap-tap and seizes up.  We find ourselves inside the #5 buoy of the Sandy Hook Channel.  So our plan is to let her cool down and then try and limp her back to the marina.  Drop anchor.........

Break out the bait, I guess we're going for some bluefish.  Start chumming, floating butterfish.  Caught somewhere around 30 dogfish, (1) fluke and (1) sea robbin.

So we try to start her up, nothing.  She won't turn over and we end up blowing the starter up to boot.  Make the call for "the ride of shame."

Arrived at the AH launch ramp via Boat US and met Joe G as he was splashing down.  Nice looking boat there.  Boy did we get in the way of the morning program at the ramp!  So, trailer retrieved from home, boat pulled on by hand and now she's parked at the house.

In the market for a new Chevy 350......
