Jig and Butter Knife Bass
« on: April 29, 2012, 08:00:59 PM »
Been doing some updating on the boat and am almost complete. Took some time out to get a trip together yesterday and today.

Yesterday was a short one for me and Bob G. After installing two new wiper motors and blades we hit the ocean for a short trip. Put together a catch of five bass releasing all but one for the diner table.

Today I had Johnny Oz, Andy, Dave and Naked Eddie aboard. Left the dock at 11am and our first stop was the fuel dock. Put 45 gallons of $4.38 a gallon fuel in the port tank. Just shy of $200 dollars later we were off to the races.

Broke the inlet and was immediately greeted by a huge school of bunker. Snagged a few and live lined them but didn't get a touch. Pulled the lines in and ran a NE course for approximately a mile and a half. Stopped on some decent marks and Dave hooked up with a bluefish. Then the bass found our jigs. Five of us on the boat and all hooked up at once making for a Chinese Fire Drill. Reached our limit in a short period of time and went into catch and release mode. (we only kept 8 bass instead of our 10 allowable)

Made several moves and had bass present and biting at each stop.

We had a lull in the action so I broke out a home made lure (dollar store butter knife that I drilled and installed split rings and a hook ;D) and sent it down just to see if a bass would hit on it. Sure enough, it gets hit by a 34" bass that was released to fight another day. Everyone had a good laugh on that one.

Take a good look at the butter knife sticking out of this bass' mouth.  ;D

In early and will be back at it on my next available day.  TT^

Way to go Joe! clp  So now you've caught fish on a spoon and a butter knife.  If you get one on a fork you'll have the Silverware Grand Slam! ;D

Inviting 'em to the table with a butter knife! I love it! Can't wait to repeat this story tomorrow. I guess I wasted all my money on those lures at the saltwater collector's show yesterday.....
