4-30 tog attempt
« on: April 30, 2012, 07:43:26 PM »
Left the marina with a bucket of crabs. Got around the hook and had birds a little south. All bluefish. Every cast was a fish.  Went to the reef and gave it a go for an hour or so with nothing so I headed to the apple pie grounds. Started catching ling on the crabs and had a steady bite for a few hours. Started using bergal strips and started getting sea bass and ling mix. The big sea bass weighed in at almost 5lbs on the bogo. Biggest one I have ever seen no less caught. My first nucklehead.  He spit up the bergall head too. The big ling was almost 21" long. I threw back a lot of sea bass and short skinny ling. Went back inshore to the reef for tog again but no takers. No signs of stripers on way in and it was a bit snotty so I did not even try hard. Not the way the day was supposed to be but I am happy. Not happy about trying to anchor up on a pile by myself.

Nice try.  Anchoring on a pile is tough enough, alone is 2x the challenge.

Nice biscuit!

You bring along any clam?  Surprised to hear of no tog at all.  What depths you fish on the reef?

Great effort. Tuff anchoring alone. Good spread of ling you got.  t^

Warren, yes seabass and tog are now closed. Keith went out on the 30th when tog was still open.

I read into his report that the seabass was released

. Also, if you look at the cleaning station all you see are ling that he reported and no seabass.  t^
