Get a reel that is easy to self service like a slammer. If it gets dunked you don't want to have to replace 9 ball bearings. That's just unnecessary. You don't need a van staal unless you plan on soaking it constantly. Slammers are easy to work on. Battles too, but they do not like sand.

Okay here is a good example of what I am talking about.  I am glad google maps has such great detail.  Lavellette does not have jetties per say.  They are called groins but for those out there a lot of people call them jetties.  Just click on the stuff below to reveal what I am talking about.

So as you all may know from previous posts, I ended up with a Tica Tc3 Dolphin 9' 1/2-3oz with a Cabo 40 real.. I actually ventured out to IBSP this morning for the first time to do some surfcasting.. Let me tell you all I was very impressed at the first cast the real is flawless and the rod is great.. I ended up catching 5 Blues and lost a nice striper pulled her up to the surf about 10 ft. and all of a sudden she spit the hook out.. Man the set up handled like a dream..

Thanks for all the help gents.. chrz

Great to here Mike.  It is always good to christen the new equipment with a few fish.

I am sure that you know this but being an old guy I will mention it anyway...LOL  When bringing in a heavier fish let the waves help you.  keep steady pressure on the hook and walk backwards as the wave pushes the fish onto the sand.

Great job.
