8/28 Irish Ayes fluking
« on: August 28, 2007, 06:56:05 PM »
Left the dock with six on board.  Went straight out Shark River inlet to 70 feet of water.  Fished a lump there and we caught three keepers and plenty of shorts.  One being 23 1/4".  Moved south to the Fisherman wreck in Sea Girt reef.  Picked at the fish boxing six more and releasing many more shorts to fight again.

Moved to the Klondike and boated four more keepers.

All in all not a bad day on the water.  Slow pick of keepers all day.  Had fish on every drift.  Released many short fluke.   Bait of the day was whole squid.  Purchase in three pound boxes at Shop Rite and attach to a double hook rig.  Put top hook thru top of mantle and the second hook between the eyes.  t^  Other baits (squid strips, Shark strips, mullet, spearing, peanuts) also caught.

Day's total.  Thirteen fluke and one seabass.  Many shorts released.

That's right Joey.  $6.99 for the three pound box.  Same squid you get at the bait shop for $6.00 but in a pound box.

Nice catch I also use whole squid purchased from Shop-Rite. I fish on a double hook spro rig. The only problem I found with the Shop-rite whole squid is the size varies. I wish they could all be of the larger size found in the box. I also dye the squid different colors. I fished with Capt. Anthony on Sunday and one guy caught a squid. Of course I left the whole squid in the freezer at home. :(

Good Job Capt. Joe,  TT^

Welcome Aboard sinker.  Nice to have you on deck.  I know you will enjoy the voyage.  Kick your shoes off, grab a cold adult beverage and belly up to the computer.  Word to the wise THIS SITE IS ADDICTING, take time to fish and then post.

Happy Catching

Hey Salty, AS they say it's not how deep you fish, but it's how you wiggle your worm!  rofl
But it can be like fishing anywhere else depending on the current was out there 2 weeks ago and fished with 4 ounces, last week I was fighting to hold bottom with 10 onces and yes thats with braided line and a drift anchor out.

Salty, Pop's is right.  Depends on the current, wind, etc.  Today we started with four ounces and worked our way up to six.

Sinker, welcome aboard.  Yeah, I wish the squid was a little larger and more consistant in size too.  But it beats the stuff you get from the bait shops.  I haven't used whole squid on a Spro, maybe have to try it one day.  A lot of the whole squid got beat up by small fish today, but it did get some nice keepers.   t^
