Successful Wednesday
« on: August 29, 2007, 08:16:09 PM »
From reading the rest of the reports, looks like I had a decent day. I had Pataske (Nick) with me today.  Told him to get to the boat an hour late so I can fuel up since the AH marina gas station opens at 6:30am... but... nobody showed and now its 7:30, so drove up to shupps landing to fuel.

All the peanut bunker you can want and then some.. Loaded up on fresh bait and headed toward Keyport Flats.  Had a nice day, no junk fish, no sea robins, just Fluke, Fluke and more Fluke.  We had a bunch of shorts but managed to put 7 in the box and one being my T-shirt winner of 8 lbs.  The next largest was about 6 lbs.  The rest were around 20".  I also got my 3rd fish for the summer slam, a nice thick 18" sea bass

Heard alot of chatter about Threshers being caught in the channels.

The only part of this day that went bad, was, my bildge pump went again, it was brand new only 1 month ago, so when I pull it out of the water tomorrow, I will bring it back to the shop after my Little Egg Harbor week.  Since i am only doing the bay thing, I don't have a need for the Bilge.  NEXT...  one of my trim tabs is missing...  go figure...  Here are some pittures..

Sounds like a great day except for the bilge pump and the trim tab, bummer.

Happy Catching

NIce job nick.

I know that seabass didn't come from Keyport flats :)
Seabass came from the Rocks.   When the fishing slowed down, we moved to the rock and the SH reef only to catch the sea bass, then drove all the way back to our original spot that we started at...  as soon as the line hit the water, came up the 6 lber off of Nick's rod... after that... Nothing more.. Called it a day then.

what made it tuff was the lack of drift almost all day.

What I do... I never check sections, I always clink on unread posts since last visit.  This way I don't miss anything.  I didn't put up a post in the float  plans, but I did put up 2 in the open boat sections, and I also responded to other who posted on the float plan board.

Nick's a great cap. Even on the Flats when we were surrounded by boats, I didn't see that many guys pulling up any fluke (forget keepers). He was vigilant in power drifting when there was no wind. Made the difference. Even my $5 Kmart Sportsfisher "Set-it and Forget-it" pole produced fluke. Sad to see the 10th approaching fast.
