Thanks for the report. Sounds like it was a great trip.  Mark is new to the Bingo as he had worked for many, many years on the boat name in my picture.  He is a great mate.

Were you using clams when you were catching the congers? I had mentioned on here that on my trip on the Tagged Fish that we took the clams off for most of the day and just fishing some type of Gulp bait on the hook.  We just jigged the Gulp and had "stupid" fishing for the ling with no more congers caught.  t^

Enjoy your great eats. I would love to do another ling trip soon, but I would have to buy a new freezer to put them in as I have no more room left from my prior trips.  TT^ cfzd

Just when you thought is was safe to go back in the <a class="inlineAdmedialink" href="#">water cfzd But ours do not get that big 5hrug I did a search of conger eel cooking and as always in the UK they are very popular as is Dog Fish the so called fish and Chips choice. Gordon Ramsey  did a stew on <a class="inlineAdmedialink" href="#">you tube so if I was you I would stop throwing them back as we did with the Sewer Trout ( Ling ) rofla since they are now a target and will be gone soon  fcp
During the search I found Sea Angler a Mag. from the other side it makes good reading and very interesting also

Interesting--Never heard they were protected.

Was always asked if I wanted to keep them when out for cod in winter--Have to ck that out.

Just FYI--conger and ocean pout ARE different.

Maybe mates don't want to fillet them  5hrug
Did search for recipies and found many different ways to prepare and cook the eels, I have never tried it but I'm sure they must be good. You can make almost any fish taste good if prepared right.
Curious now might want to try it sometime.  TT^

fcp As i said I once mated on a few Charter boats, out of Clark's and Crystal Point, taking care of the catch was # 1. and a big part of the tip.  chrz And the times I fished on the head boats I never had a mate clean my fish smk most would waste more, and the fish were dirty with slime,  cfzd I clean my own fish thankyou, and Congers are harder then reg. eels to skin. but they can be Filet and again not that easy fcp we talk about a lot of fish we throw back thinking there not good eating but since many people have immigrated here many of the fish are now available that we never thought about eating The Asian market in Marlboro i have talked about has fish from around the world fresh and frozen and Alive and some very scary looking cfzd   Next door are Asian and grandma cooks fish up for me its to die for TT^ I supply her the fish and she has to return the favor.  love grandma chrz chrz chrz
